CLEAR Education - Child Safety Code of Conduct
All paid and unpaid staff, including volunteers, interns, and trainees at CLEAR Education, are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of children and young people who engage with our organisation. All paid and unpaid staff are expected to adhere to this Code of Conduct in both physical and online interactions with anyone under the age of 18.
I will:
Always act in accordance with CLEAR Education’s child safety and wellbeing policies and procedures.
Behave respectfully, courteously, and ethically toward children, their families, and fellow staff.
Listen to and respond to children’s views and concerns, especially if they express (verbally or non-verbally) that they feel unsafe or unwell.
Promote the human rights, safety, and wellbeing of all children at CLEAR Education.
Maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
Consider and respect the diverse backgrounds and needs of all children.
Create an environment that encourages children’s participation and is welcoming, culturally safe, and inclusive for them and their families. Wherever possible, involve children in decisions about activities, policies, and processes that affect them.
Contribute, where appropriate, to discussions, policy reviews, and learning initiatives related to child safety and wellbeing at CLEAR Education.
Identify and mitigate risks to children’s safety and wellbeing in accordance with CLEAR Education’s risk assessment and management policies.
Respond promptly to any concerns or complaints of child harm or abuse in line with CLEAR Education’s policies and procedures.
Report all suspected or disclosed child harm or abuse as required by relevant state/territory Child Protection Legislation and CLEAR Education’s internal and external reporting procedures.
Adhere to CLEAR Education’s protocols on communicating with children.
Comply with all relevant state/territory Child Protection Legislation and CLEAR Education’s policies regarding record-keeping and information sharing.
I will NOT:
Engage in any unlawful activity involving or related to a child.
Participate in any activity that could physically, sexually, or emotionally harm a child.
Unlawfully discriminate against a child or their family members.
Be alone with a child unless absolutely necessary.
Arrange personal contact, including online communication, with children I work with for purposes unrelated to CLEAR Education activities.
Disclose personal or sensitive information about a child, including images, unless consent is given by the child and their parent or legal guardian, or unless required by CLEAR Education’s policies and procedures on reporting.
Use inappropriate language in the presence of children or expose them to inappropriate images or materials.
Work with children while under the influence of alcohol or prohibited drugs.
Ignore or fail to act on any suspected or disclosed child harm or abuse.
If I think this Code of Conduct has been breached by another person at CLEAR Education, I will:
Act in a way that prioritises the best interests of children.
Take immediate action to ensure children’s safety.
Report any concerns promptly to my manager, Child Safety Officer, the Chief Executive Officer, or another manager or leader at CLEAR Education.
Follow CLEAR Education’s policies and procedures for receiving and addressing complaints and concerns.
Comply with relevant legislative requirements on reporting, as well as with CLEAR Education’s policy and procedures on internal and external reporting.
I agree to abide by thisCode of Conduct during my employment with CLEAR Education. I understand that breaches of this Code of Conduct may lead to disciplinary action or termination of my employment with CLEAR Education.
